Referrals are generally physician initiated by fax request with an acceptance notification delivered within 2 weeks.

Unfortunately, my office does not accept all consultation requests.  Specifically, referrals are not accepted if:

  • An appropriate primary care assessment has not yet been completed;

  • If the referral issue or question is likely non-neurological in nature; and

  • If the request does not fulfill the standards set out by the College of Physicians and Surgeons of British Columbia.

What to expect

Neurology is a clinical specialty that relies heavily on a patient's history of symptoms and the presence of physical signs.  There is a role for advanced testing, but at its core, this is a clinical specialty.

You can expect to spend at least 15-30 minutes describing your history. Approximately 5-10 minutes can be spent on the physical exam, however this is entirely variable.  The examination is neither painful or invasive.

An entire appointment can be as short as 20 minutes, or as long as 90, depending on what arises.

With that in mind, please remember to wear appropriate clothing.
